Matthew Mohanan

Lives in Chattanooga

Printing nature from one’s home connects them to the environment unlike anything else. Local trout are of the most beautiful and challenging fish to print but the effort is deeply rewarding with beautiful art and newly established connection to place. Matt taught Asian history and has fished his entire life. A passion and interest in Japanese fish printing came naturally after being introduced by a fellow artist. Matt teaches gyotaku classes locally and prints people’s fish by commission.

Gyotaku of Tennessee Rainbow Trout: oil-based etching ink, watercolor, and India ink on ma (hemp) rice paper. Wet Mounted to another print of American Pondweed.
